Administration must respond to the grim situation:  Ghulam Hassan Mir

SRINAGAR, January 6(KNS): Apni Party senior vice president Ghulam Hassan Mir on Wednesday expressed deep shock and grief over the human causalities and damages caused by the heavy snowfall that has virtually brought the normal life out of gear.

In a statement issued to KNS, Mir censured the administration for its dismal response to the exigencies of winter and urged the government to take immediate measures to bring the normal life back on tracks.

“On behalf of Apni Party I express my heartfelt condolences with the bereaved families of a lady who died at Trehgam-Kupwara and a CRPF sub inspector who lost his life due to collapse of a shed at Hazratbal-Srinagar,” Mir observed.

Urging administration to press into services its men and machinery to make all the major and link roads traffic-able, Mir remarked that the government should immediately restore the essential services in all the snowbound areas in Kashmir region.

“The government should also constitute revenue committees who will simultaneously assess the losses suffered by the people on account of this snowfall,” he said, adding that several residential houses besides cow sheds have either collapsed or suffered huge damages at many places in Kashmir division because of snowfall and Peer Panjal region due to lightening and land sliding.

“The respective district administration in Budgam, Baramulla and Rajouri must swung into action and shift such affected families to safer locations and pay ex-gratia relief to the victims,” he demanded.

Mir said most of the roads leading to main towns and villages in Kashmir division are still closed. He urged the district administrations to come out of their offices and take stock of the situation prevailing on the ground arising out of the recent snow fall.

Besides snow clearance on roads, Mir said the administration must ensure replacement of damaged electricity transformers, conductor wires and poles and restore   drinking water supply wherever required.

Apni Party senior vice president also asked the health authorities to facilitate all available treatments to the patients at peripheral healthcare institutions in order to prevent any eventuality because of the inaccessibility of territory care hospitals.(KNS)
