Anti-militancy ops to remain continue, killing militant in Malbagh encounter 'big victory': IGP

Srinagar, July 03 (KNS): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir zone Vijay Kumar on Friday reiterated that security forces will continue anti-militancy operations in Valley and termed the killing of a militant in Malabagh encounter a “big victory” for security forces.
IGP was talking to media personnel at a wreath laying ceremony of slain CRPF man in Humhama who killed on Thursday late night encounter that broke out in Malabagh, Hazratbal outskirts of Srinagar district. Kumar said that militants are moving from one place to another and changing their hideouts but reiterated that anti-militancy operations will remain continue in Valley till the survival of last militant.
“Militants are shifting their hideouts but security forces are continuously following them. Anti-militancy operations will remain continue to ensure peace in the Valley”, IGP said.
He termed the killing of slain militant in Malbagh encounter “big success” for security forces and said the killed militant was involved in acts of arms snatching and killing of CRPF men and innocent civilians.
IGP said the on Thursday late night, Srinagar police and CRPF after receiving tip-off, jointly laid Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Malbagh locality and conducted searches. “Soon after the contact was established with the militants hiding in the area, he fired indiscriminately upon forces party, triggering an encounter in the area”, he said.
He added during exchange of fire, the militant was neutralized and identified as Zahid Das who headed ISJK Anantnag and commanded a group of 5 militants among few had been killed.
When asked whether militants have chosen Srinagar city for furthering their attacks, IGP denied and said operations carried out in Srinagar in recent past were not attacks on security forces but was anti-militancy actions. (KNS)
