All-Party meeting underway in Gupkar, Congress skips


Srinagar, Oct 15 (KNS): The all-party meeting to chalk out the future strategy on Gupkar Declaration stated at Dr Farooq Abdullah’s residence in which all signatories of the declaration including PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti participated is underway at Dr Farooq Abdullah’s residence Gupkar Srinagar, however Congress has skipped the meeting citing “health grounds” as a reason.
According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), several mainstream political leaders who are parties of Gupkar Declaration including PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, PC Chairman Sajad Gani Lone, CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami, ANC vice-president Muzaffar Ahmad Shah and JKPM leader Javaid Mustafa Mir reached Dr Farooq’s residence at few minutes before the meetings was scheduled to take-off.
However Congress, a signatory of the declaration has skipped the meeting. Party chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir in a statement issued reads, “Mir cannot attend the meeting due to some medical emergencies and he has already conveyed the message to NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah”.
Notably the information about the conduct of meeting came to fore after former chief minister Omar Abdullah tweeted that PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti accepted Dr Farooq Abdulla’s invitation of joining a meeting of the Gupkar Declaration signatories on Thursday afternoon.
“My father & I called on @MehboobaMufti Sahiba this afternoon to enquire about her well-being after her release from detention. She has kindly accepted Farooq Sb’s invitation to join a meeting of the Gupkar Declaration signatories tomorrow afternoon”, Omar tweeted.
The duo Abdulla’s had visited the residence of Mehbooba Mufti after she was released from 14-months long detention on Tuesday late night.
Meanwhile many NC leaders including Member of Parliament Hasnain Masoodi, Ali Muhammad Sagar, Nasir Aslam Wani, Tanvir Sadiq and others have also reached Gupkar at the occasion where meeting was underway when this report was filed. (KNS)
