AGS organizes NCC annual training camp at Uri after a decade

Uri, Oct 24 (KNS): Army Goodwill School (AGS) Uri on Saturday organized a National Cadet Corps (NCC) annual training camp under the aegis of J&K NCC Directorate Jammu and NCC Group Headquarter Srinagar.
According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), the camp was a gog with activities as a nine days camp starting from 18 -26 Oct 2020. “This being a unique feat for Uri as this was the first camp conducted after a span of 10 years and also the first in the valley after the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic”, officials told KNS.
They said as many as 110 Boys (SD/JD) NCC cadets participated from Schools and Colleges of Uri, Tangdhar, Kupwara, Bandipora, Sopore, Baramulla & Pattan who underwent rigorous training amid strict adherence of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ward off corona virus infection.
“Rapid Covid-19 testing of cadets and staff was carried out by team of Block Medical Officer, Uri”, officials maintained.
They also said that in difficult times when no schools and colleges are able to function, NCC came forward in clearing the apprehension and paving the way for undertaking vigorous activities in their camp aimed to bring confidence and joy to the youth and awam.
Officials said that the main purpose of the camp was to bring positive change in youth and imbibe a culture of hard work & dedication. “The aim was to bring out leaders among the youth and to motivate the participants to join defence forces and serve the nation”, they said.
The training curriculum included basic training like physical training, drill, weapon training, firing, map reading and grooming in a way to instill confidence among cadets. As part of camp the cadets also participated in various sports competitions, lectures by decorated Army Officers and Civ Dignitaries. Special speakers detailed by Chinar Corps gave talks on terrorism, Kashmiri at & drug menace. They were also taken to visit the " Kaman Post" the first post of Indian Army on NH-44 and undertook social work like distribution of sanitizing items to villagers & swatchta drive in Uri town.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) 19 Infantry Division Virendra Vats visited the camp where he was given Guard of Honor by the cadets. He at the occasion inspected the training norms being followed in the camp.
GOC gave a motivational talk and personally interacted with cadets over a cup of tea. He also felicitated meritorious cadets.
“The cadets were inspired by the GOC and sang NCC song at the end. Overall, the camp was a huge success in these difficult times and paved the way as to how the activities are to be conducted during COVID-19 pandemic and boosted morale and confidence of the participating cadets. These cadets are now beaming with confidence and new found energy to take on the challenges of life”, officials said. (KNS)
