Accelerate pace of developmental work in south Kashmir: Masoodi to govt

Srinagar, 26 June (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Member of Parliament from Anantnag Hasnain Masoodi on Friday asked administration to accelerate the pace of developmental work in south Kashmir areas saying that the inordinate delay in the completion of various infrastructural projects has compounded the hardships of people.
In a statement issued to KNS he said although there is some semblance of developmental activity in south Kashmir but it is disparate and slothful, said Party’s Member of Parliament while expressing dissatisfaction over the pace of development work underway in south Kashmir districts. “The claims of the government on fast tracking of the slew of development projects in south Kashmir areas have fallen flat. The thrust areas it was made known will have IT technology, Infrastructure, Renewable energy, Education, tourism sector and manufacturing. The ground realities however give a ditch to the claims of the government. Major inter district roads, and intra district arterials present a grimy tail of neglect. Power infrastructure merits special attention from the government for it has seen no substantial expansion, up gradation since 2015. Likewise the government owned academic institutions are awaiting a major flip to increase their capacity to meet the demands of increasing student count and contemporary academic demands. In addition to that, people in various hamlets of south Kashmir continue to use untreated water for drinking purposes. Agricultural activities in various belts of south Kashmir have come to a grinding halt due to shortage of electricity and availability of water for irrigation. The region waits on to have more lift irrigation and water treatment plants to cater to the agricultural and household requirements of people,” he said.
While drawing the attention of administration to the oddments faced by the people of Zewan, Balhama, Khrew and Sempora he said that the road stretch that branches out from the national highway at sempura and connects the hamlets of Wuyan, Khrew and zafran colony with the national highway is in terrible condition. “The black topping on the road has peeled off at various places difficult for the public and private transport to ply on it. Gravel and dust on the road stretch also makes it difficult for the pedestrians to walk on the road not to speak of plying their vehicles. It is no less than an ordeal for the locals to fetch expecting others, elderly people to hospitals,” he said adding that the road stretch caters to an industrial region of Khrew, Wuyun. Keeping in view the industrial significance of the area, the government is supposed to grant all weather routes to the entire neighborhood, which unfortunately hasn’t been done so far. Population of the hamlets and colonies alongside the road stretch has also seen exponential increase since the road was constructed, now that the population has soured up, the road merits up gradation to cater to the increasing rush of traffic and people. Streets lights should be adequately placed on the entire road stretch to ensure safety of pedestrians and vehicular traffic. The area has seen bump in the construction activities, the road grid, alleys, unfortunately haven’t seen any augmentation,” he added.
Meanwhile YNC vice President Ahsan Pardesi has also sought immediate blacktopping of the 5km road stretch from Sempura to Balhama, saying the road stretch is in terrible conditions and merits immediate attention of authorities. (KNS)
