Corruption is eating Vitals of J&K

Srinagar, Aug 28 (KNS): Senior Vice President People’s Conference and Former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil urged Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha to fast track investigations on corruption cases taken place during previous Governments.
in a statement issued to KNS reads, Although former Governor Mr. Satya Pal Malik and Former Lt. Governor GC Murmu had assured people of J&K of stern action against corrupt but nothing has been done so far in this direction. Corruption is eating vitals of J&K and made the life of people miserable and this is the main reason of our backwardness and under development. Vakil alleged that the departments dealing with the corruption including commissions which were constituted to investigate corrupt people had been made paralysed by the previous Governments as their policy had all along been to safeguard theirs own interest and shield corrupt files. Being themselves involved in the corruption, the previous Governments headed by different political parties had an undeclared and secret pact to protect each other from any action of law. Politicians who succeeded in getting stay from the High Court in order to protect themselves from legal action, it is surprising that the previous Governments had never made any effort to get the stay vacated and with the result the corruption cases are pending against ex Ministers for a decade together without any action.

Vakil asked the UT administration what happened to the Health Insurance Scam fraud and till today nobody knows who are involved in this big fraud and similarly previous accountability commission has named several politicians, ex Ministers in cases of corruption but no action has been taken as of now. A political culture of brazen corruption has created a sense of gloom and dispondency in the J&K especially in the youth who are day by day getting distancing from the mainstream as expecting no justice. What is more important brazen patronage to nepotism, corruption and backdoor entries during previous governments has undermined and alienated hardworking and educated youth of Jammu & Kashmir and thereby giving free hand to radical forces who had used it effectively to exploit local sentiments.

Vakil reminded UT Government after assuming the office, they have assured effective measures will be taken to deal with the corrupt elements in public institutions but it is surprising that we are yet to see any concrete institutional measures taken by the administration to strengthen the institutions dealing with eradication of corruption.
Vakil stressed on Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha to take immediate steps in order to strengthen institutions dealing with the eradication of corruption and focus his attention to make the Administration accountable and also see that why the present administration is slow in taking action against those who are corrupt whether a politician or a bureaucrat.
Vakil also appealed to the people of J&K especially youth to forge unity to fight corruption, then only unemployed educated youth will get justice. (KNS)
