Srinagar, Jun 03 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Youth National Conference provincial vice president Ahsan Pardesi on Monday demanded establishment of a college for Shalimar sub-urban locality of srinagar, saying that the initiative will go a long way in giving in satiating the long pending and genuine demand of the locals.

Ahsan as per a statement issued to KNS said that the locality of Shalimar and the adjoining areas have remained traditionally unserved as far as college infrastructure was concerned.

“The other day SAC had approved establishment of 50 new colleges across the state.  The population living in and around shalimar has to travel long distances to reach the colleges, the nearest of which is not less than 10 KM away from Shalimar sub urban," he said.

He added that establishing a college in shalimar will go a long way in giving impetus to higher education in the area. "The move will boost the morale of poor student who due to financial crunch finf it difficult to reach city colleges on regular basis. A to and fro travel from shalimar and sub urban areas to city based colleges takes is heavy on the pockets of students coming from lower middle class families," he added.

"Establishning a college in Shalimar locality will cater to the demands of a hige chunk of territory compring of upper reaches of Dara, Harwan, Nishat, brein, Habak Burzhama, TailBal, and Khimbar and other areas. The move will give impetus to the business activity in the area as well.”

Ahsan said that there was no ficibility issue involved in establishing a college in Shalimar area. “The college should be named after Mirak Shah Kashani (RA), a well-known Sufi saint whose shrine is located in the area. The college should have professional courses in its itenary of subjects which will be taught there. Besides that the non-teaching faculty for the college should be inducted from the catchment area of the college. I urge the incumbent administration to heed to the long-pending demand of the locals.” (KNS)
