Kotli, Apr 16 (KNS): Binia Bin of the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday clinched the finals of 90th Vishal Dangal in keenly fought contests here this afternoon.
While Binia Bin of Jammu and Kashmir Police defeated Dushyant of Delhi and won the finals, Nissar of Doda trounced Amit of Delhi and emerged second in the competition, watched by thousands of sports lovers of Nagrota Assembly Constituency, its peripheries and the Jammu City.
The audience gave huge applause to the wrestlers on their magnificent bouts and cheered their every move.
In all 36 wrestlers of the State and neighbouring states participated in the Dangal.
Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana was the Chief Guest, who gave away trophies and prizes to winners and others.
Lauding wrestlers’ love for the sport, especially as it does not offer money like other popular sports, Rana said the game is all about pure pride. He expressed satisfaction over the participation of wrestlers from various parts of the country, saying this reflects the attachment of youth to the world’s oldest sport.
“The best part of the wrestling is that the wrestler has no one to blame for winning or losing unlike other sports, as the wrestlers are out their alone in the ring and responsible for every move”, he said that bestows both responsibility and confidence in the wrestler.
The MLA Nagrota said wrestling also opens up avenues for enterprising and talented wrestlers across the globe with very famous shows being immensely popular and watched by millions on electronic media. He said Dangals pose numerous challenges which the wrestlers fully appreciate before entering the ring.
Rana expressed happiness over wrestling becoming popular with youth showing their prowess in immense measure and establishing their credentials in the sport. He strongly pleaded for due attention to the oldest sport and exposure to local youth evincing interest in the competitions like wrestling, saying it continues to remain a passion for its practitioners and fans whose number is substantial, notwithstanding the challenge being posed by other popular games.
The MLA Nagrota complimented the Dangal Committee for making the event successful and wished them success in their attempts of popularizing the sport. The committee, inter allia, comprised Swaran Singh Charak,Kaka Ram Dubey, Ravi Kumar Baru, Sham Lal Baru, Durga Dass Thappa And Madan Mohan.
Prominent among the thousands of sports lovers included NC Provincial Vice President Anil Dhar and Joint Secretary Sports Council Shiv Kumar Sharma. (KNS)
