President approves imposition of Governor’s rule with immediate effect

Srinagar, Jun 20 (KNS): A day after the fallout of the PDP-BJP dispensation in the state, President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday approved imposition of Governor’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir with immediate effect.
Earlier, the Governor N N Vohra had written to president after concluding his consultations with all the major political parties in the state following the collapse of the government after BJP withdrew its support to the PDP.
With the President’s directive, the reins of Jammu and Kashmir are now back in the hands of Governor NN Vohra who will be running the state for the fourth time now, and will be completing 10 years as J&K Governor on June 25, reports said.
On Tuesday, Vohra spoke to BJP’s Kavinder Gupta and PDP chief and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to find out if they intended to explore alternative alliances to form government in the state, but got a negative response.
The Governor also spoke to GA Mir, president of J&K Congress, who said that his party doesn’t have the numerical strength to form the government on its own or even in alliance.
Later in the day, Vohra had meeting with National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah who said that opined that Governor’s rule and elections was the only option left.
After concluding his consultations with all major political parties, Governor Vohra has forwarded his report to the President of India for imposition of Governor’s Rule under Section 92 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
