Amid heavy deployments day passes off peacefully

Srinagar, Jun 25 (KNS): A complete shutdown called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik on Monday hit normal life across Kashmir as law enforcing authorities house detained Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Syed Ali Geelani and arrested Mohammad Yasin Malik from his Maisuma residence early in the morning.
Reports said that law enforcing authorities had deployed heavy contingents of police and para militaries in sensitive and hyper sensitive areas of Srinagar city and measure towns of Kashmir valley to thwart attempts of protests during shutdown in different areas.
Reports said one youth namely Ubaid Manzoor Lone, a student of class 11 and resident of Nadihal was injured in clashes with government forces near Nadihal canal in Rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The injured youth, locals said, was shifted to district hospital Baramulla for specialized treatment but the condition of the youth was stated to be out of danger. No untoward incident was reported from any other part of Kashmir valley till late evening hours.
Passenger traffic was off the roads, shops and business establishments were closed, schools and colleges were shut and train service from Banihal to Baramulla was suspended for the day.
The attendance in government offices, reports said, was very thin as the passenger traffic was not plying normally on the roads. (KNS)
