Srinagar, Dec 25 (KNS): After remaining closed for two days due to landslide at Chanderkoot on Tuesday morning, Srinagar-Jammu National Highway partially opened for the traffic on Wednesday,
An official of traffic police told KNS that more than 2500 vehicles were stranded on the highway and were allowed after the debris were cleared from the road.
SP Rural Muzaffer Shah said only stranded vehicles were allowed to move from Srinagar to Jammu on Wednesday. However he said, the traffic was only allowed to move the highway after 1 pm, as fresh landslides had occurred at Chanderkoot on Tuesday morning.
“The traffic was allowed to move only after the fresh landslides were cleared,” he said and added subject to weather and condition of the road traffic will ply from Jammu to Srinagar on Thursday.
The officer has appealed the people not to start their journey from either side before knowing the status of the road form nearest traffic unit.
Since early November, the highway got closed several times due to snowfall and landslides causing huge inconvenience to the travellers. (KNS)
