Police takes cognizance, investigation

Srinagar, Oct 22 (KNS): Timber smugglers Saturday beat the Forest official in frontier district Kupwara after the official found them cutting down trees.
A forest guard, Zaffar Ali Khan of Hihama Juguchal received information about the presence of smugglers in a forest who were cutting down trees.
The official reached at spot and tried to seize cutting tools from the smugglers.
“The smugglers used sharp edged weapons to attack on him. He received many injuries on various parts of his body. He was shifted to nearest hospital,” said locals.
SHO Kupwara, Muhammad Ashraf said that they had taken the cognizance of the matter.
“Yes, a written compliant has been received from the forest official. Six persons have been named as accused in the complaint received. One of the accused Showkat Ali Khan is BSF personnel. Investigations have been taken up,” the SHO said.
Meanwhile, forest officials have arrested a person who were allegedly smuggling the timber Khaiepora area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
“A Tata Mobile vehicle has been seized while it was ferrying timber. He had no official document or receipt to prove that it was authorized timber. It was ferrying this timber from Handwara to Srinagar,” said an official.
He added that police has registered the case vide FIR 401/ 2016 in police station Handwara. (KNS)
