Srinagar, Dec 09 (KNS): Three militants were on Sunday morning killed in a gunfight that ensued Saturday evening in Mujgund area in the outskirts of Srinagar city and lasted for eighteen hours. The identity of the slain militants is though yet to be ascertained but the authorities say that one of the three militants killed in the gunfight could be a foreigner.
Reports said government forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in the area and a gunfight was triggered after the militants fired upon the forces and engaged themselves into a long drawn gun battle. The clashes broke out Sunday morning when the gunfight was continuing as the militants kept on changing their location from house to house.
After intense gunfight between the government forces and the militants, three militants were reported killed in the gunfight and six houses were gutted in the exchange of fire.
Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), ADGP law & order Munir Ahmad Khan said, “On receiving specific information about the presence of militants in Mujgund area bordering both Srinagar and Bandipora districts in the outskirts of Srinagar, a cordon and search operation was launched in the area. Though forces try to persuade the militants hiding in a residential house to come out and surrender but they not pay any heed to calls for surrender and instead fired on the forces triggering an encounter. Due to foggy evening, the operation was prolonged and on Sunday morning three militants, one of home is believed to be a foreigner were killed. We are ascertaining the identity of slain militants. Three houses were damaged during the gunfight as militants kept on changing their locations from one house to the other.” (KNS)
