Srinagar, May 24 (KNS): The Auqaf Committee of Sumbal in Bandipora district has protested against a revenue official posted in the area for allegedly misbehaving and threatening them when they went to him for redressal of grievances.
The committee has threatened protests and shutdown in the area if the government “does not transfer of the Tehsildar immediately”.
Jan Muhammad, Secretary of the Committee told KNS that the Tehsildar of Sumbal kept them awaited for an hour outside his office and misbehaved with them when they entered into his office after his call.
“We went to the Tehsildar hoping redressal of our grievances. But the official misbehaved with us when we entered his office after his peon called us in,” he said.
He said that the committee protested against the officer and decided launch an agitation “in case the government does not transfer him”.
Teshildar Sumbal, Bilal Ahmad, refuted the allegations leveled by the committee and told KNS that the persons, who claim to be members of Auqaf, are few locals who want to encroach on a government land belonging to Animal Husbandry department.
“Police has registered an FIR against them after we complained against these persons for threatening a government official and encroaching land. They are few individuals who have no association with the Auqaf,” he told KNS. (KNS)
