Srinagar-Jammu national highway remains closed for third day

 Srinagar, Jan 15 (KNS):   The Srinagar Jammu National highway on Wednesday remained closed for vehicular traffic for 4th consecutive day and no traffic was allowed to move on the road after fresh snowfall in the area.

 
SSP Traffic (Rural) Muzaffar Shah told KNS that the highway remained closed on Wednesday and thousands of vehicles were stranded on the 264-km road at various places. “Efforts are on to clear the highway which was closed after heavy snowfall in Jawahar Tunnel area. We are hopeful that the highway will be cleared soon,” he said.
 
He said the authorities have pressed men and machinery into service to clear off the snow from the road.
 
The SP has advised the passengers to contact respective traffic control units (TCU) before starting journey on the highway. “Passengers are requested not to start their journey from either side of the road, till the highway is completely cleared of Snow,” he said.
 
The highway was closed for traffic on Monday evening morning after snowfall around Jawahar Tunnel and landslides from Banihal to Ramban stretch(KNS).
