Srinagar-Jammu national highway remains closed for third day

Srinagar, Dec 22 (KNS): The Kashmir valley remained cut off from the rest of the country for the third consecutive day on Sunday as the Jammu-Srinagar national highway was hit by fresh landslides.
Incharge officer Traffic deployed at jawhar Tunnel, Fayaz Ahmad Khan told KNS that the highway remained closed for traffic for the third consecutive day on Sunday. “Big landslides have hit the national highway at various places, especially Digdol where 200 meters of the road has been damaged by a landslide,” he said and added it will take atleast another day to clear the highway.
Khan advised the passengers to contact respective traffic control units (TCU) before starting journey on the highway. “Passengers are requested not to start their journey from either side of the road, till the highway is completely cleared of debris,” he said.
The highway was closed for traffic on Friday morning after snowfall around Jawahar Tunnel and landslides from Banihal to Ramban. Around 4000 vehicles remain stranded at various places on the highway, reports said. (KNS)
