Srinagar-Jammu highway remains closed for 4th day



Srinagar, Jan 04 (KNS): The Kashmir valley remained cut off from the rest of the country for the fourth consecutive day on Saturday as the Jammu-Srinagar national highway was hit by landslides after Wednesday evening.

SP Traffic Rural Muzzafar Ahmed Shah told KNS that the highway remained closed for the traffic for the fourth consecutive day on Saturday. “Massive landslides have hit the national highway at Digdol.”

The officials said efforts were on to clear the landslides from the highway and as soon it becomes operational, stranded vehicles on the 264-km long road will be cleared first.

Shah advised the passengers to contact respective traffic control units (TCU) before starting journey on the highway. “Passengers are requested not to start their journey from either side of the road, till the highway is completely cleared of debris,” he said.

The highway was closed for traffic on Wednesday after landslide in Digdol. Around 4000 vehicles remain stranded at various places on the highway, reports said. (KNS)
