Soura police arrests drug peddler

Srinagar, May 26 (KNS): Police today arrested a drug peddler in Soura area and recovered drugs from him which he was trying to supply to youth.

A police official said today SHO Police Station Soura Syed Waseem Jehangir under the supervision of SDPO Hazratbal Rameez Rashid Bhat laid a at Vecharnag Nowshehra Srinagar.

“During naka checking a person, identified as Mehraj-ud-din Rather S/o Gh Nabi Rather R/O Chanapora, Nowshera was apprehended from whose possession huge quantity of banned drugs, was recovered,” the official said.

The accused was arrested on spot and drugs were seized.

The official said the accused is a habitual drug peddler, who procures drugs from different areas and sells it to youngsters at Vecharnag, Nowshera, Srinagar at exorbitant rates to earn illegal profits.

“"The drug peddler with the aim to earn illegal profits through sale of banned drugs is poisoning and intoxicating the future generations. The huge quantity of drugs seized from his possession itself speaks about the gravity of his illegal actions,” he said, adding a case FIR No. 40/19 U/S 8/22 NDPS Act stands registered in Police Station Soura and investigation taken up.

The official said this is in continuation to the efforts of Srinagar Police to fight against the menace of Drug Abuse and Drug Peddling. (KNS)
