Srinagar, Sep 22 (KNS): Senior National Conference leader and Member Legislative Assembly Kangan Mian Altaf Ahmed has expressed surprise over the decision of the government to go ahead and hold municipal and panchayat elections in state without taking into consideration the ground situation in state.
In a statement to KNS, Mian Altaf said that the situation is not conducive for municipal and panchayat elections in state and it is surprising that despite opposition from major political parties the government has gone ahead and announced municipal and panchayat elections in state.
“The situation is not conducive for municipal and panchayat elections in state and the decision to go ahead with the process will further aggravate the situation” the statement added.
Mian Altaf said that the government should have taken into consideration the ground situation and views from major political parties and deferred the polls until a favorable atmosphere isn't created for the democratic process. (KNS)
