Shuja-ul-Haq is president Kashmir Press Club

Veteran journalists hail the way in which polls were held, express confidence in new office bearers

Srinagar, Jul 15 (KNS): In the last three decades the first ever elections of Kashmir Press Club were held in Srinagar on Monday in which senior journalist Shuja-ul-Haq was unanimously elected as the president.

For scribes this election was of greater significance because it was held after the gap of 30 long years. Besides Shuja-ul-Haq Moazam Muhammad was elected as vice president while as Ishfaq Ahmad Tantray was elected as General Secretary and Farooq Javed as Treasurer.

Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), chief election commissioner senior journalist Manzoor Anjum said that by conducting the free and fair polls of such a level, the scribes of Kashmir have proved beyond doubt that they shall remain in the forefront to strengthen the institutions of democracy and fair play. He congratulated the winners and wished them good luck for the future endeavors.

The scribes working in various news organisations have expressed hope that the new elected body will work earnestly for the overall welfare of Kashmir’s journalistic fraternity.

Kashmir News Service (KNS) Editor-in-Chief Muhammad Aslam Bhat felicitated the winners and expressed hope that those who have been elected to various posts will make all endeavors to benefit the journalistic fraternity and highlight the grievances faced by the pen-pushers in Kashmir.

According to him, all those who remained actually involved in the process of electing office bearers of Kashmir Press Club deserve adulation of the highest level and the responsibility is of all those scribes to steer the ship to the shore and make Kashmir’s journalism scan new horizons with eager hope. He said that winning and loosing is part of every democratic process but the way in which the highest level of discipline was exhibited deserves applause from one and all. (KNS)
