‘One way traffic allowed’

Srinagar, Feb 22 (KNS): After remaining closed for the two consecutive days, the Srinagar-Jammu Highway, the only road connecting Valley with rest of the country was on Wednesday opened by the authorities for the vehicles to proceed to their destinations.
The authorities had closed the highway following the slippery conditions of the roads while the SSP Traffic Srinagar, Sargun Shukla had yesterday said that road clearance work is ongoing and the highway will be thrown open soon.
The officials in the traffic department said that vehicles coming from Jammu-Srinagar were today allowed to ply besides allowing the stranded vehicles to proceed towards their destinations.
“The vehicles coming from Jammu-Srinagar were today allowed to proceed towards their destinations and the further decision regarding Thursday schedule will be taken in the late evening hours,” the official said.
Pertinently, scores of vehicles and passengers had remained stranded during the last two days as the authorities had closed the highway due to the slippery conditions of roads triggered due to the rainfall in the valley.
Notably, the Meteorological (MeT) department had predicted improvement in the weather conditions from Wednesday afternoon. (KNS)
