Several Uri farmers express disappointment over ‘no receipt of seeds’

Uri, May 04 (KNS): A lot of anger is visible in Garkote, Salambad, Jabla and other villages in the Uri Tehsil against the Agricultural Department who failed to provide agricultural seeds to farmers so far.
Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), residents alleged that from the very first day of lockdown, farmers are eagerly waiting for seeds. "Despite assurance given by Director Agriculture that seeds to be provided at the door steps of farmers in coming day, words given by official are yet to be fulfilled", farmers said. They alleged that no seed been provided to villages of Uri.
Chowdary Nazir Ahmed, a farmer of Salambad Uri said that there was no seed avialable within the department. He said the season is on peak and department failed to provide seeds especially maize to poor farmers.
Sub-Divisional Agricultural Officer (SDAO) Uri Tej Pal while talking to KNS said that the department has received 285 and 30 quintals of Maize Hybrid and Maize Composed respectively which was according distributed in Uri’s ten zones. He added the major portion of received quota was dispensed in Nambla and Uri blocks.
Farmers requested Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla and Director Agriculture for early diposal of their demands and demanded enquiry for negligence of the field staff in providing seeds on time. (KNS)
