Srinagar, Feb 01 (KNS): Senior Congress leader G M Saroori has sought a ban on alcohol in Jammu and Kashmir.
Saroori said that there should be complete ban on the sale of alcohol in the state. “Like Bihar, government should impose ban on alcohol in JK too,” Saroori told KNS.
Saroori said he also raised the issue in the assembly a few days before. "I was supported by the opposition legislators along with few ruling party MLAs including Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation Javid Mustafa Mir," he said.
It is to mention here that in the assembly, Saroori had stood up from his chair and demanded a complete ban on liquor in the state. Legislators from NC and Congress and others supported Saroori.
As government remained unmoved over the demand from the opposition, Saroori had urged speaker Kavinder Gupta’s attention and asked those supporting him to stand up from their chair. Immediately all the legislators of NC, Congress and some independent MLAs stood up in support of the ban on liquor.
As the government maintained silence, Saroori staged a protest and walkout from the assembly while the other members followed him. (KNS)
