Says Corporation received 19193 applications, 4043 verified

Srinagar, Jan 23 (KNS): Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner on Tuesday said that the corporation received at least 19193 applications while 4043 among the applications were verified.
According to the KNS correspondent, addressing a presser here, the Commissioner said that out of the verified applications, the corporation constructed 500 Individual house hold Latrines (IHHL) so far.
He also said that the corporation completed two CTPT (Community Toilets and Public Toilets) whereas 48 sites have been allotted for the construction of the toilets out of which work is in progress for 18 sites.
Sharing details about Solid Waste Management (SWM), Wani informed that for waste segregation SMC has to provide twin colored bins i.e. Green for biodegradable and blue for Non biodegradable waste material to two Lac households.
The Commissioner further said that in this regard above 40000 twin bins has been distributed to the households across the city.
“For waste collection at house hold level / door to door collection, SMC has started dual chambered hopper vehicle services in various areas of the city. 123 hopper vehicles so far have been put to use where as SMC is in a mode of procuring more hopper vehicles as the requirement for smooth functioning and desired results is procurement of 300 hopper vehicles,” he said.
He said that the source segregation is happening in ward 1, 2, 22, 30, 32 and 24 whereas the other wards are in process of initiating segregation at source.
“Decentralization of waste processing by installing auto composters in four zones within the city limits,” he said.
The Commissioner further shared the details about the (Refuse Derived FUEL) RDF, saying that decentralization machines and shredding machines will be installed in Bioremediation of waste.
Regarding the (Information, Education and Communication) IEC, the commissioner said that awareness through electronic and print media including Big 92.7 FM, Doordarshan, Etv, Radio Kashmir through Shaherbeen was made.
“SMC also through empanelled NGO’s has done Nukad nataks, Mural Arts, Rallies, walkathons, with schools, colleges, universities by organizing art completions, speech competitions etc. More over extensive multiple Sanitation drives has been launched in hospitals and other important institutions as well,” he said.
About Capacity building, Wani said that SMC has organized many trainings and workshops for each hierarchical level including ward officers, building inspectors, Sanitary supervisors and above all to Safaiwallas. “Experts from all over India imparted training on waste segregation, door to door collection etc. Also the employees of the Corporation keep visiting different places across India to participate in workshops and trainings being conducted on scientific adoption of solid waste management by various Municipal Corporations,” he said.
Informing media persons about the Swachh Survekshan 2018, Wani said that in 2017 out of 434 cities across India, Srinagar was ranking 244 in Swachhta.
“Given that the survey this year will cover all 4041 urban local bodies in the country. This survey will help cities immensely in not only preparing themselves well ahead of the actual survey in January 2018 but will also help in improving the overall quality of life for their citizens through enhanced service levels towards sanitation and cleanliness,” he said.
