Walkways, waterlogged streets cleared

Srinagar, Dec 12 (KNS): The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Commissioner, Riyaz Wani along with the engineering wing, sanitation wing and senior Municipal Officers today took stock of the snow clearance in the wake of fresh snowfall this early morning.
Commissioner along with his team toured to different areas of Srinagar city where it was expected to be waterlogged including Lal Chowk, TRC, Regal Chowk, LD, JVC, Sampora, Parimpora, Peerbagh, Humhama, Chanpora, Barthana Crossing etc.
In a communiqué issued to KNS, he expressed satisfaction over the work being done on ground on war footing to dewater these areas. SMC is swiftly attending to the priority areas wherein dewatering has also been carried out particularly at the commercial hubs in and around Lal Chowk.
After inspecting commercial hubs, the SMC has installed water-suckers to dewater Hari Singh High Street and other water logged areas said Wani.
The Directions have also been passed to the staff to ensure that pedestrian walkways and waterlogged streets are cleared of any movement is restored against which SMC has put on men and machinery to ensure hassle movement on the nerve centres of the city by removing encroachments from Amira Kadal, Jehangir Chowk and adjoining areas
Besides pressing officials into service for manual clearance, several loaders and JCBs are made available for clearance of lanes and bylanes if situation demands further added Wani.
Furthermore a Snow Control room headed by Secretary of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation will be active and in case of any help the general public can get in touch with the officers concerned whose numbers has already been published earlier. (KNS)
