Schools, colleges remain closed, classwork at KU remains suspended

Srinagar, Oct 19 (KNS): Restrictions continue for the third consecutive day in old parts of Srinagar city where protests and clashes broke out on Wednesday this week soon after two militants and son of a house owner were killed during a gunfight in Fatehkadal area.
Law enforcing authorities imposed restrictions in old parts of the city to maintain law and order, police said adding “prohibitory orders in place in Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, M.R.Gunj, Safa Kadal and Maisuma where heavy deployments of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been made” .
The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani the Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq the Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman and Mohammad Yasin Malik the JKLF Chairman has asked the preachers at the mosques to highlight the excesses committed by the forces during their sermons and people to take out protests after the congregational Friday prayers.
All higher secondary schools and colleges have been shut to prevent student protests. Classes at the Kashmir University have also been suspended for the day. (KNS)
