Dr. Farooq Peer highlights importance of education evaluation in ensuring quality education

Srinagar, Oct 08 (KNS): A 5-Day workshop on Educational Evaluation/ Paper setting commenced today on 8th October 2018 in the Auditorium of JKBOSE Bemina, Srinagar. The workshop is being organized by JK BOSE in collaboration with the RIE Ajmeer. The experts of NCERT are the members of workshop team headed by Chairman RIE Prof. Dr. G. Vishwanthapa.
The Directorate of School Education Kashmir provided the services of 60 Key Resource Persons (Lecturers/Masters/Teachers) who shall get training for five days from outside experts on evaluation and paper setting, which shall increase the realistic thinking and develop the mental ability of students of the State appearing in Secondary examination.
Besides, it will increase their learning levels also.
Director Academics JKBOSE, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Peer in his welcome address highlighted the importance of Educational Evaluation in ensuring quality education. While underlining the significance of Educational Evaluation, Dr. Peer quoted the philosophical views of some great personalities. He said that the question paper must be set in such a way that it creates more IQ, reason and realistic approach towards competition and all affairs of life.
Prof. G. Vishwanthapa, Chairman RIE Ajmer speaking on the occasion shared the recent initiatives being taken up by NCERT in the field of Educational Evaluation. While ensuring his possible support to the State, he stressed for collaborative efforts in bringing a tangible change in the field of Education.
Director School Education Kashmir Dr. G.N. Itoo present on the occasion elaborated the need for a revised scheme of evaluation which is student friendly, comprehensive in nature and deeply linked with the classroom context.
He felicitated NCERT for its continuous support to the State in professional development of its teaching resource. He asked for constitution of subject-wise Resource Groups whose expertise can be used in upcoming teacher training programmes besides developing roadmap for quality enhancement.
Secretary JKBOSE, Riyaz Ahmad briefed the participants with his views on the subject. While sharing his experiences he emphasized the need of having a competency based evaluation tool to ensure comprehensive evaluation of a student. “The purpose of evaluation must be to graduate a student to next level of learning not just to next grade”, he said. He thanked RIE Ajmer for profiting the State with its expertise. (KNS)
