Students of Pulwama College habitual of pelting stones: Police Report

Srinagar, Oct 18 (KNS): The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) Wednesday directed the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and Principal Degree College Pulwama to appear before the Commission on November 23 with compliance report.
The SHRC while taking strict cognizance of the complaint filed in the Commission had asked SP Pulwama to submit the report. The SP in the report has stated that it was observed that the students of Degree College Pulwama have become habitual of stone pelting upon police/security forces along with miscreants.
“On 12-04-2017, the students of the college pelted stones upon army vehicle near the gate of the college for which FIR No, 123/2017 U/S 148,149, 427, 307 RPC stands registered in police station Pulwama,” reads the report Pulwama Police has submitted to SHRC.
The Office of the SP Pulwama has also said in the report that the “police didn’t enter inside the college premises despite grave provocation from the mob, except near the main gate to maneuver the vehicles and to chase the mob away as there was every possibility that if not chased, they could have overpowered the police deployment, which could have overpowered the police deployment”.
“Police entered inside the college on the request of college authorities and in the presence of Addl. DC Pulwama and ACR Pulwama,” reads the police report.
It may be recalled that during the intense clashes between police and students in April this year, 67 people were injured, according to the hospital report. The college students who were shouting pro-freedom slogans had staged protest against a police crackdown on the college on April 15, 2017. (KNS)
