Srinagar, Mar 10 (KNS): The first phase of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) Programme was today held across Kashmir during which thousands of children under the age of 5 years were administered anti-polio vaccine to protect them against the crippling disease.

At Anantnag, the Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Khalid Jehangir inaugurated IPPI programme at Maternity and Child Care Hospital Sherbagh Anantnag by administering pulse polio vaccination drops to newly born infants in presence of CMO, DY, CMO and other officials.
The health department has already put in place a comprehensive action plan for the successful campaign of pulse polio immunization programme 2019. The Dy, CMO Anantnag on the occasion informed that 139239 children in the age group of 0-5 years were administered pulse polio drops in the district. For the effective and successful implementation of the programme, 650 pulse polio booths were setup in the district. Also 14 transit points were established to provide polio drops to the children.
The Health Department deployed 2600 total workers which include 438 Anganwari Workers, 58 Education Workers, 783 ASHA’S and 1321 Health Workers. 130 supervisors have been also deployed for proper monitoring of the campaign.

At Bandipora, DDC Bandipora, Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza inaugurated IPPI programme by administering drops to a child at District Hospital Bandipora.
CMO, Dr Tajamul, Medical Superintendent Syed-ur-Rehman and staff members of DH were present on the occasion.
DDC informed that the anti-polio drive was carried out in the district today in which about 61000 children upto 5 years of age were administered polio vaccines.
He said vaccination booths were established across the district including in snow bound Gurez Valley with a deployment of officials of different departments. Besides, mobile transit teams along with supervisory staff and collaboration of teachers and Anganwadi Workers were engaged for proper execution and monitoring of the immunization process.

At Ganderbal, Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Hashmat Ali Khan kick-started the IPPI programme at District Hospital, Ganderbal by administering the anti-polio drops to a newborn baby.
CMO Ganderbal, DHO, Dy. CMO Ganderbal, DIO, MS SDH, and BMO Ganderbal were also present on the occasion.
It was informed that 46082 lakh children up to 5 years-of-age were covered under the programme for which 227 polio booths have been established in the district, while as 920 employees and 46 supervisors were engaged in the process, besides 04 mobile teams were deployed to achieve the cent percent target under IPPI in the district.

At Budgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-U-Din Bhat IAS Probationer inaugurated the first phase of pulse polio programme at Chief Medical Officer's Office, Budgam by administering Polio drops to children up to 5 years of age.
Chief Medical Officer, Budgam Dr Nazir Ahmad, Dy. Chief Medical Officer Budgam, Dr. Tehmeena Bukhari, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Budgam, Dr Deeba, DTO, DIO, DPMU and other staff were also present on the occasion.
After launching the drive Dy Chief Medical Officer Budgam said that 104867 children up to 0-5 year’s age group were covered under Pulse Polio Immunization Programme in District Budgam. She said that in order to ensure polio drops are administered to every child Health Department in Budgam deployed 2578 as manpower which included 1059 Health Workers, 693 ASHA workers, 760 ICDS workers and 66 voluntaries at 622 Booths including, 9 transit teams, 57 Hard to Reach area Booths and two slum set up in ten Medical Blocks of District Budgam.

At Shopian, Additional District Development Commissioner, Muhammad Saleem Malik accompanied by CMO Shopian, Dr Ab Rashid inaugurated the pulse polio immunization drive by administering oral polio vaccine to a new-born baby at the District Hospital Shopian.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Medical Superintendent Shopian, District Immunization Officer, Block Medical Officer Shopian, and officials of health department were present on the occasion.
It was given that a total of 240 pulse polio booths were setup in the district across all its Tehsils targeting a population of 42757 children up to age under 0-5 years group. Around 960 teams have been deployed from Health, ASHA, and Anganwari Workers including 45 Supervisors. Besides, various Transit Camps and several Mobile camps were also been established across the district.
The IPPI programme was also held at SDH Keller and CHC Zainapora blocks where block Medical officers inaugurate the vaccination programme.

At Pulwama, Additional Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Chowdray Mohammad Yaseen inaugurated the anti-polio drive at Old Hospital Pulwama. CMO Pulwama Dr Mohammad Jaffar and other officers of the Health Department were present on the occasion.
93629 children in the age group of 0-5 years were covered under the IPPI-2019 in the district. Around 470 booths were set up in different areas across the district and 532 ASHA workers, 555 Anganwari Workers, 724 Health Workers, and 94 Supervisors have been deployed on duty for achieving cent percent target.
The IPPI programme was also held at SDH Tral, SDH Pampore, Community Health Centre Rajpora and all Medical Blocks of District.

At Kulgam, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ghulam Hassan Shiekh today launched the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization programme in the district by administering polio drops to several children at District Hospital Kulgam.
CMO Kulgam, Medical Superintendent District Hospital Kulgam, Deputy CMO and other staff from Health Department was present on the occasion.
During the campaign, 87400 children up to 5 years-of-age were covered under the pulse polio immunization programme in the district for which 2032 officials comprising Health Workers, ASHA Workers, ICDS workers and voluntaries were deployed at 508 booths including 12 transit booths, 06 hard-to-reach areas in 05 Medical Blocks of Kulgam.

At Kupwara, Chief Medical Officer Kupwara Dr Prehlard Singh inaugurated the Pulse Polio immunization drive by administering Oral Polio vaccine to a baby in the District Hospital Kupwara.
Dy Chief Medical Officer, Dy Medical Superintendent, District Immunization Officer, DMEIO, other officers and officials were also present on the occasion.
It was informed that a total of 136600 children were covered during the Ist phase of the IPPI in district, for which 730 vaccination booths were put in place in 10 medical blocks.
The total teams deployed for the purpose, consisting of 1271 Health Workers, 928 ASHA Workers, 675 Anganwari Workers and 74 NGOs, besides 146 Supervisors were deployed for overall supervision of the programme.
Meanwhile various Transit Camps and several Mobile camps have also been established across the district for places like Bus Stands, Sumo Stands etc.

At Baramulla, the District Development Commissioner, Dr GN Itoo inaugurated the Pulse Polio immunization drive by administering Oral Polio vaccine to a baby that was born just two hours before in the District Hospital Baramulla.
President Municipal Council Baramulla Omar Kakroo and other officers and officials were also present on the occasion.
It was informed that a total of 1,60,185 children were covered during the Ist phase of the IPPI in district Baramulla, for which 833 vaccination booths were put in place. As many as 3380 employees from health department, ASHA workers, ICDS and other volunteers will perform their duty including Health workers, ASHA Workers and Anganwari Workers. Besides various Transit Camps and several Mobile camps have also been established across the district for places like railway stations, Bus Addas, etc.
The DDC, meanwhile, called for extensive and coordinative efforts from the deployed machinery, so that every child below the age of five years in the district is covered under the programme.
Moreover polio both was also established in the slum area of Baramulla where CMO accompanied by President Municipal Council Baramulla and Dy CMO inaugurated the drive.

At Kargil, Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary kick started the IPPI programme in the district by administering polio drops to children at Community Health Centre Sankoo.
Superintendent of Police Kargil Dr Vinod Kumar, Chief Medical Officer Kargil Dr Ibrahim Khan, Block Medical Officer Sankoo Dr Munawar Hussain Wazir, former Councilor Sankoo Aga Syed Abbass Razvi besides doctors and paramedics were present on the occasion.
As many as 382 vaccination booths were set up in different parts of the district to vaccinate 16505 children from 0 to 5 years while as 1570 health personnel including supervisors, health workers, ASHAS, Anganwari Workers and other personnel have been deployed to carry out the vaccination campaign. Vaccines were already dispatched to all blocks and snowbound areas of the district including Drass and Zanskar.
Besides movable dispensaries and transit camps were also set up to achieve cent percent target under IPPI in the district. The programme would be conducted for three consecutive days that would also involve house to house visits to safeguard the children from this crippling disease. (KNS)
