Protests erupt in Rawalpora after Army allegedly thrash two youth

Srinagar, Oct 13 (KNS): Protests broke out in Rawalpora area of Srinagar district after Army personnel deployed on the road allegedly thrashed two local youth. Soon after the incident, local of the area blocked the main road and protest against the alleged highhandedness of forces personnel.
An eye witnesses told KNS that two youth identified as Shahid Ahad Bhat son of Abdul Ahad and Auqib Ashraf Dar son of Muhammad Ashraf Dar, residents of Rawalpora, were beaten by the Army personnel deployed near the Rawalpora Bridge. They said the duo were thrashed mercilessly by the forces personnel without any reason which grew anger among the passersby.
They said the duo were about to die when locals of the area intervened and took them to the nearby hospital for immediate medical attention.
However soon after the incident locals of the area hit the road and blocked the vehicular movement for hours. They were demanding to bring the involved army personnel into justice.
“We are protesting against the unjustified thrashing of our boys. We want action against the soldiers who mercilessly beaten up our children”, protestors told KNS.
“Army personnel were hurling abuses to their mothers and sisters and when they argued, they were beaten to pulp”, eye witness told.
He said Auqib has sustained injury in his leg and foot while Shahid has cervical injury.
Meanwhile Army PRO Rajesh Kalia didn’t comment over the incident and said they are ascertaining the facts about the matter. (KNS)
