Srinagar, Mar 20 (KNS): A seven days training of Trainers programme under Mothers Absolute Affection (MAA) was held at GB Pant hospital.
The programme was held from Mar 12 to Mar 19.
This programme developed the first batch of Middle Level Trainers, 20 in number who are from all districts of the Valley.
“Infant and young child feeding is one of the most important and a key intervention for reducing the overall infant mortality rate and reducing the incidence of respiratory and diarrheal diseases,” the statement issued to KNS said.
It further reads that it also reduces the susceptibility to non communicable diseases like diabetes, hypertension, obesity and cardiovascular diseases later on in the life.
The participants were trained in various techniques of helping the mothers to breastfeed their babies and help them in complimentary feeding also.
The IYCF State Resource Centre at GB Pant Hospital intends to hold one more such programme in the Month of April so that the training of frontline workers can be started to promote, protect and support breastfeeding at gross root level and thereby make further dent in reducing Infant Mortality Rate and Malnutrition.
