Srinagar, May 31 (KNS): Political parties in the Valley have mixed opinion over the new cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hope that the NDA which has majority government will take bold stand to resolve the long pending issue of Kashmir politically.

The parties pinned hope that with BJP president Amit Shah being chosen as Home Minister, Kashmir issue will be the main agenda of focus of the new government for its peaceful, political solution.

“We hope the new BJP government and especially the new home minister Amit Shah will take corrective measures and focus on improving situation in Kashmir by peaceful and political measures rather than using suppressive steps,” National Conference General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar told Kashmir News Service (KNS).

Sagar said that by daily killings, people in Kashmir get alienated.

“Killings should stop and political initiatives should be started. All parties will lend their support to BJP for political resolution of Kashmir issue,” he said, adding that ban on pellet guns, releasing people who are in jails should be prime focus of the Home Minister Amit Shah.

Senior CPI (M) leader M Y Tarigami said the new BJP government should give up it's hard policy on Kashmir and start dialogue with stakeholders.

“Repressive policy has alienated people and youth here and prolonged the conflict. We expect the Prime Minister and the new home minister will review their strict Kashmir policy and initiate dialogue for political resolution of the Kashmir issue for peace,” Tarigami told Kashmir News Service (KNS).

Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), senior politician and President DPN Ghulam Hassan Mir said that the new government will have “tough approach towards militancy and interference and support from Pakistan”.

“I think the new government will have tough approach towards militancy and interference from Pakistan. Kashmiri leadership should think how to deal with such a situation. Their traditional ways of politics needs a relook,” Mir said. (KNS)
