Police files FIR against 8 timber Smugglers in Handwara, seizes two vehicles

 Srinagar, Feb 20 (KNS):- Handwara Police on Thursday filed an FIR against 8 timber smuggler and arrested five of them along with 60 cfts illicit timber, Tractor and Sumo  in Handwara  town of north Kashmir’s Handwara district in two separate raids.

 
 A police spokesman in a statement said that acting on specific information police arrested five  timber smugglers in the Villgam area and in another raid at Qalamabad three timber smuggler have escaped  in Mawer aream a police statement said.
 
 The statement reads that 5 timber smugglers who where arrested from villagam area and 54 Ctfs of illicit timber, Tractor bearing Chassis No. MBNDE/BV/AEHNA-00473  and Sumo (JK09B 7092) has been seized from their possession.
 
 Police have identified them as Javid Ahamad Bhat, Bilal Ahmad Dar, Basharat Ahmad Dar, Altaf Ahmad Beigh and Mohammad Hamza all residents of Tarathpora.
 
In an another raid  at Qalamabad, Mawer  06 cfts of illicit timber has been seized, however smugglers have managed  to escape  from the spot. police  have identified  them  as Farooq Ahmad Shah, Altaf Ahmad Thoker and Gasha- residents of Qalamabad. the statement said.
 
“Police has registered a case FIR Nos.  04/2020 and 07/2020 under relevant sections and initiated investigation in the matter,” he added.
 
 “Our consistent actions against anti-social elements should reassure the community members that we are making every effort to keep our society free of crime. Police has resolved to act as per law against those who indulge in criminal activities,” said police spokesman in a statement.
 
 The drive will continue and all the culprits who are involved in timber smuggling will be dealt strictly SDPO Handwara Tariq Mehmood said.
 
 Meanwhile the locals of the area have hailed the Handwara police for the swift action  (KNS).
