Jammu July 20 (KNS): Police on Sunday thwarted a protest march led by the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) demanding the restoration of statehood. The march, organized in Jammu, saw heavy deployment of police forces, resulting in the detention of several Congress leaders, including PCC president Tariq Hamid Karra.
Talking to media, Karra Called the police action "undemocratic" and a "brute use of force," Karra strongly condemned the police action, stating that the people's democratic right to protest was being stifled. The protest was part of the Congress’s broader campaign to press for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that we were supposed to present our memorandum to the LG (Lieutenant Governor), but as you saw, how the peaceful procession was sabotaged by the police using force and also by arresting us.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelWhatever is happening right now is being done in an undemocratic manner there's an attempt to suppress our voice, he said.
We have decided that the slogan we gave earlier first "Chalo Srinagar" (Let’s go to Srinagar), then "Chalo Jammu" (Let’s go to Jammu), and now the new slogan we’ve given "Chalo Chalo Dilli Chalo" (Let’s go, let’s go to Delhi), under this slogan, we will begin our march towards Delhi tomorrow. We will try to also surround the Parliament House if possible, he said.
Why are we being stopped? Who is behind the police? Because it’s clear who the police is working under. This is failure of BJP as they want to run Jammu and Kashmir through hooliganism, we will not allow that hooliganism to succeed, he added.(KNS)
