Srinagar, May 16 (KNS): PDP legislator from Assembly segment in Shopian's Wachi Aijaz Mir today welcomed the ceasefire announcement by the Government of India in Jammu and Kashmir.
Mir said that the announcement is a big leap toward peace and efforts of the PDP leadership for peace and dialogue are making bearing fruit.
‘PDP president and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti ji has been working hard for dialogue and peace in Jammu and Kashmir. Announcement of ceasefire are because of the efforts of our CM,’ he said.
Shopian district has been witnessing volatile situation since 2016 as encounters between militants and security forces have become a routine.
During encounters, civilian killings took place which further deteriorated the situation.
“The ceasefire will definitely help in improving situation in Kashmir, especially in Shopian, where situation is quite restive. I hope all armed sides will abide by the ceasefire for peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue,” the legislator said.
The GoI today announced ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir after Union Home Minister Rajbagh Singh asked the security forces not to launch operations in Jammu & Kashmir during the holy month of Ramzan. “Decision taken to help the peace loving Muslims observe Ramzan in a peaceful environment,” he said.
