Kichloo seeks review of Bursar Project to avert peoples’ dislocation

Kishtwar, Nov 14 (KNS): Former minister and National Conference MLC Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo on Tuesday lambasted the sadistic approach of PDP-BJP government towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir in general and the remote areas in particular, saying governance deficit has manifested in plethora of problems.
“Marwah and Warwan areas stand testimony to apathy of the government that has lost moral standing in being at the helm of this unfortunate state”, Kichloo said while concluding a fortnight long visit of the area.
The former minister referred to the anger of people against execution of 1200 MW Bursar Power Project, which will lead to displacement of 70 per cent population. He sought immediate intervention of the Chief Minister in saving the people of Marwah, who are not against the construction of the project but not at the cost of losing everything -- homes, land holdings and immovable properties. He said that there is immediate need to take proper review of Bursar Power Project without any further delay and also called for redesigning the DPR of the project. He said that government should take comprehensive look at the environmental aspects in view of series of projects after every 5-10 kilometres in the Chenab Valley. He said that the people are protesting since long over Bursar power project issue, but nobody was listening to them.
Kichloo expressed solidarity with the suffering people, who are braving the brunt of defunct utility services, dilapidated roads, scarcity of rations at the depots and minimum basic on health services front. He said the conditions prevailing in the remote areas are pitiable, which are feared to worsen further during the ensuing winter months. He said no contingency plan has been put in place to ensure availability of minimum basics to the disadvantageous population, who feel let down and left in the lurch.
Interacting with the people and referring to their deprivation, Kichloo expressed anguish over non availability of rations and reducing its quota fixed by the previous government led by Omar Abdullah. He said Marwah is reeling under ration scarcity, which is a matter of concern. He assailed the coalition dispensation for looking to other side with regard to essentials and saying except for hollow promises, it has failed in deliverance on ground zerio.
He said development has taken a rear seat, as the government was engaged in other pursuits, which in no way can be termed as pro-people. The nepotism and favouritsm has plagued the governance and the rights of genuine stakeholders are brazenly usurped. He said developmental inertia has created a crisis like situation in the entire area, forcing the people to take to streets.
Kichloo criticised the government for non fulfilment of promise with the Sukhnia fire tragedy victims, who continue to remain homeless for the past two years. He south deputation of a high level team of officials to the area so that they could take the stock of problems faced the people. He also distributed Rs. 26000 each among the 120 families of the Sukhnia village. He also stressed the need for sending a team of doctors in the area to check the outbreak of Hepatitis B.
Prominent among those who accompanied the MLC during his two-week visit to the area included Ghulam Rasool Magrey, Ghulam Mohammad Malik both block presidents. Ghulam Ali, Bashir Ahmad Ramzan, Mohammad Murtaza, Nazir Ahmad all ex sarpanchs ,Abdul Razak Yitoo, Mohammad Yousaf Wani, Gulzar Ahmed Wani, Farooq Ahmed Shan, Wali Mohammad Rather, Lakhmi Chand, Sandeep Kumar, Radha Krishan and others.
