‘Unholy alliance was destined to break’

Srinagar, Jun 19 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) leaders on Tuesday said that Bharatiya Jananta Party’s (BJ) decision to pull out of the alliance with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir is ‘an opportunistic move’ ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
According to the statement issued to KNS, JKPCC senior leaders and legislators including Vice President MLC G N Monga, MLA Sopore and party Vice President, Haji Rasheed Dar, MLA Bandipora, Usman Majeed and MLA Devsar Mohammad Amin Bhat said that “this unholy alliance between the two parties was destined to break. But because of this unholy alliance and the wrong policies of both the Central and the State governments in the last more than three years, the state has been pushed into a quagmire and uncertain situation.”
“There is a chaos and confusion everywhere while the security situation has not only deteriorated in the state, but the borders as well. The killing of civilians and security personnel has gone up during the last more than three years of PDP-BJP rule,” they said.
“Both the parties are equally responsible for the present unrest in Kashmir and can’t evade the responsibilities of their wrong doings by ending the alliance. The policies of the BJP, which had a huge mandate at national level, have completely proven to be a failure in Jammu and Kashmir. The state has been polarized due to the communal politics played by the BJP over the last three years,” they added.
They said that over the decades, the Congress is the only party which has emerged a strong unifying and secular force in all three regions of the state and the party alone can better serve the interest of all sections of the society and lead the state on the path of peace, progress and prosperity.
“Congress under the dynamic leadership of Rahul Gandhiji and Sonia Gandhiji have unshakeable belief in democracy, secularism and are committed to cause of downtrodden people,” the statement added. (KNS)
