Ongoing board exams, flow of vehicles from districts reasons for traffic jams: SSP Traffic

Srinagar, Nov 18 (KNS): As massive traffic jams continue to haunt commuters in Srinagar, traffic authorities on Monday said ongoing board exams and more flow of vehicles from districts towards the city are the reasons for jams.

Since last two weeks massive traffic jams have been witnesses across Srinagar city. While the commuters blame security barricades erected on roads, wrong parking and street vendors installing their stalls on footpaths and roads as the main reason for the traffic jams, authorities said after two months of shutdown more people are coming to city causing the jams.

SSP Traffic City Al-Tahir Geelani told KNS that number of vehicles plying on roads is high due to ongoing board exams.

“Most of the students, who have to reach the exam centers, are being picked and dropped by their parents and relatives which increases the flow of traffic on roads,” he said. “Also more people from districts are coming for shopping to Srinagar these days which has again increased the flow of traffic.

He rebutted the allegations that traffic police has failed in its job to streamline the flow of traffic. “Our men are on job across the city to streamline the traffic,” he said. (KNS)
