Bandipora, Jan 15 (KNS): With a view to encourage young budding talent in martial arts and promote a culture of sports and physical fitness among the young generation, Naidhai Army Camp organised North Kashmir Taekwondo Championship 2018 at Naidkhai Sports Ground on the Indian Army Day ,15 Jan 2018.
A total of 525 martial arts enthusiasts from four districts Bandipora, Baramulla, Ganderbal & Srinagar participated in the event under various categories and showcased their talent.
Highlight of the event was the demonstration on self defense and disarmament where real fights, tiles, tube lights & bricks breaking, stones were smashed on the belly of strong martial artists. Defence tactics for gun point hostage situation and stunt of motorbike being ridden on the stomach was also demonstrated for the audience.
A whooping strength of over 2000 spectators from different areas graced the occasion. Voluntary participation of significant number of youth from the large areas of North & Central Kashmir indicates yearning for normal routine to retain.
An Army official said that the event was organised with the aim of engaging the youth and developing their interests in the field of martial arts and sports as well as weaning the youth from prevailing evils of drug abuse. This gesture of Army was applauded by the participants and the local populace. (KNS)
