Srinagar, Dec 26 (KNS): The no-confidence motion against deputy mayor proved successful on Friday while the motion against the mayor was adjourned due to the lack of quorum, officials told KNS.
Secretary SMC Council, Sofi Mohammad Akbar told KNS while the motion against deputy mayor Sheikh Imran was moved in the first half and 48 corporators voted against him, the motion against the Mayor Junaid Mattu could not be held due to the lack of quorum. “There were less than 36 corporators present when the motion against the Mayor was moved,” they said.
Akbar said the no-confidence-motion against Matu moved by corporator Ghulam Nabi was later withdrawn by him.
On Monday 47 corporators had moved a no-confidence motion against Sheikh Imran while another no-confidence motion on Tuesday against Mattu was moved by 40 corporators. Some of the corporators, who moved no-confidence-motion against the mayor include, Sheikh Imran, Aaqib Renzu, Inayat Rather, Abdul Majeed Tantray, Ghulam Nabi, Wajahat and Sabia Irfan.
It is pertinent to mention here that rumours were agog in Kashmir from the last few weeks that the BJP was planning to move a no-confidence-motion against the mayor and deputy mayor. However, last week senior leader of BJP and incharge Kashmir Sunil Sharma said the party was in no hurry to move a no-confidence-motion against the mayor and his deputy
“We are not interested in moving no-confidence-motion against Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Mayor and his deputy. But the fact is that 30-40 corporators have approached us saying the Mayor and his deputy have not been able to deliver on ground,” Sharma had told KNS. (KNS)
