Srinagar, Jan 19 (KNS): Police on Friday nullified the reports of putting Srinagar and other Valley parts on high alert, saying ahead of the Republic Day normal security arrangements have been put in place.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Muneer Khan told KNS that there is no specific militant threat in Kashmir Valley ahead of the Republic Day as reported by some sections of the media earlier.
IG Kashmir also rejected the reports of any High Alert sounded in Srinagar and said that no such measure has been taken by the Police. "The security arrangements are normal ahead of the Independence Day or Republic Day celebrations in Kashmir. This has been happening every year and saying that Valley has been put on High Alert is wrong," Khan said, adding that there is also no specific militant threat in Kashmir ahead of January 26.
IG Kashmir when asked about the security arrangements being taken ahead of the conduction of the Panchayat polls in Kashmir, said that no statement over the issue could be issued till there is a notification for the Panchayat polls issued. "It would be premature to comment on these issues when there hasn’t been any notification for conduction of Panchayat polls issued. Let there be a notification first and then only we can comment on the security arrangements," IG said. (KNS)
