No Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid on 15th consecutive Friday

Srinagar, Nov 15 (KNS): Ahead of Friday following Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW), restrictions under Section 144 were re-imposed in some parts of old city Srinagar due to which no Friday congregational prayers could be offered at historic Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta for the 15th consecutive week.

According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), normal life across Kashmir Valley remained disrupted on Friday as shops remained closed in most areas while lesser transport was plying on roads. There was Nowhatta huge deployment of security forces personnel in Nowhatta and other sensitive areas of the city.

“Though the interior and exterior roads were not sealed by the forces for the first time after August 5, but no Friday prayers were allowed at Jamia Masjid,” Ishfaq Ahmad, a resident of Nowhatta told KNS.

“The boundaries of Jamia Masjid were surrounded by the forces and nobody was permitted to enter the Masjid compound,” he added.

Ahead of Friday following Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW), Dargah Hazratbal also witnessed little participation of devotees. Reports said though Friday congregational prayers at Dargah Shrine passed on peacefully, participation of devotees witnessed decline.
In commercial hub Lal Chowk and adjoining areas markets remained closed and thin movement of public transport was witnessed. However, private transport was plying normally throughout the day in Srinagar and other parts.

Similarly reports reached from southern and northern parts of Kashmir Valley. (KNS)
