'Army not conducting search operations anywhere in Srinagar municipal limits'

Srinagar, Jan 15 (KNS): Following reports about government forces conducting search operations in parts of Srinagar city, Police Monday evening clarified that cordon and search operations are not under going anywhere in Srinagar city but ahead of republic day J&K police assisted by CRPF is undertaking routine security checking at places lying in the vicinity of Sher-e-Kashmir stadium, this year's venue for the republic day.
Talking to KNS, IGP Kashmir Muneer Ahmad Khan said we are not conducting cordon and search operations anywhere in Srinagar city and army does not operate within the municipal limits of Srinagar and that police & CRPF was conducting a routine frisking ahead of republic day in areas lying in the vicinity of the Sher-e-Kashmir stadium this year's venue for republic day parade.
Khan said it was only J&K police, assisted by CRPF which was busy in sanitizing the areas particularly around the venue for republic day celebrations this year.
He said that the venue for this year republic day has been shifted from Bakhshi stadium to Sher-e-Kashmir cricket stadium Srinagar as the Bakhshi stadium was undergoing reconstruction. (KNS)
