Srinagar, Jul 15 (KNS): Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone on Monday kick-started party’s outreach program ‘Salaam-wa-Kalaam’ in district Kupwara, drawing an overwhelming response from the people. He thanked voters and interacted with the party workers and supporters.
Lone while addressing a series of public interactions at Nechhama, Satkoji, Butshungi, Behnipora, Rajpora, Ahgam and Zachaldara said there is an immediate need for greater interaction of officers at grassroots level to reverse the trend towards disaffection and disempowerment and provide a bridge between government and citizens that promises a more effective and efficient governance delivery system.
“People in far flung areas are facing immense hardships on a growing number of pressing issues with no one there to listen to their plight. There is growing disconnect between the governor administration and people of the state. People are showing up in droves in government departments and demanding to be heard. It’s up to officials at every level of government to listen to -- and work with – them to solve these challenges. Governor administration must hear their concerns and take action to resolve their grievances,” he added.
Sajad further said that in order to benefit the local populace of the area, it is imperative upon the government to increase the pace of public works being executed in the area, stressing upon the need to improve road connectivity, communication and supply of water.
“The work on Bungus road, Handwara hospital and other projects is going on at a snail’s pace. There is an acute shortage of drinking water as the local administration has failed to provide regular water supply. It is imperative upon the administration to fast track unfinished developmental and welfare projects in the area”, he added.
Commenting on the hardships faced by the kith and kin of disappeared persons in the area, Sajad said that “there is an acute problem of disappeared persons wherein the police have lodged FIR’s showing these people have crossed over to the other side of the border. While there is no proof to support the claim, their families are put through an ordeal and denied even the basic fundamental rights like issuing a passport. Instead of being compensated for their losses they are being punished for crime they have not committed”, he added. (KNS)
