‘Poll deferment exposes Govt. inability to maintain peace in JK’

Srinagar, Jan 31 (KNS): The opposition National Conference on Wednesday slammed the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti over not chairing the All Party Meet on Panchayat polls, saying she the farce facade of normalcy has got ruthlessly exposed.
“It should have been the Chief Minster heading the All Party Meet over the deferment of Panchayat polls in the state. She has the Portfolio of Home with herself and heads the government. Instead, it is the Rural Development Minister heading the meeting. This is ironical and spills beans over what is going on within the government,” NC provincial president, Nasir Aslam Wani told KNS.
He added the deferment in the Panchayat polls in the state has exposed the incumbent regime out-rightly as it has proven beyond doubt that the coalition has failed to bring back peace in the strife torn state.
NC provincial president maintained that the government couldn’t hold the Anantnag by-polls in April last year and it was unnatural that keeping later in limbo, it wanted to go ahead with the Panchayat polls. “It proves that the government has no idea about the situation on ground, rendering itself into a mere simpleton,” Wani said.
The NC leader maintained that it was always bizarre that the government had no idea how ugly and worrisome the situation is turning on ground. “The civilian killings with latest in Shopian are becoming a routine course and the fact is that the people have lost all hopes from the present coalition of BJP and PDP,” he added.
Wani said that by finding lame excuses for the deferment in the Panchayat polls, the government has exposed itself very badly. “Its claims about bringing back normalcy have proven farce and one could well imagine the fate of the state where the government couldn’t even hold Panchayat polls. Is this what PDP promised to the people that it will bring back peace and tranquility to the violence infested region?,” Wani asked. (KNS)
