Srinagar, May 04 (KNS): Calling for ceasefire in the holy month of Ramadhan, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti Saturday said that the government of India has made hell the lives and dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Mehbooba said Prime Minister Narendra Modi keeps on telling that he follows the policy of Insaniyat, Kashmiriyat and Jamhooriyat vis-à-vis Kashmir then he must stop all these counter militancy operations, arrests and harassments which will be a biggest proof of Insaniyat and Jamhooriyat.

She also appealed the militants to halt their operations keeping in view the holy month of Ramadhan so that the people can worship in peace.

Addressing a press conference at her Gupkar residence, Mehbooba, as per Kashmir News Service (KNS) correspondent said the government of India seems to have completely ignored the state of Jammu and Kashmir given the elections across the country.

“The government of India has turned Kashmir into a war zone. They are at war with its own people. Be it a ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, JKLF and later completely suspending the cross LoC trade along Srinagar-Muzafarabad road,” she said.

The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister citing a news paper report said she came to know the government of India has again started intervening into the internal affairs of Jammu and Kashmir Bank regarding the posts of MD and chairman.

“This all is being done by government of India to breakdown the economic backbone of Kashmir. The ban on highway is also a part of this attitude by the government of India. Our fruit growers who kept their fruits in cold storage have also suffered huge losses due to this highway ban,” Mehbooba said.

PDP chief said that our Gujjar and Bakerwal brothers who move their cattle from one place to another are also being harassed by the communal goons and also snatch their sheep and goats from them.

“The situation across the state especially in Kashmir valley has been turned into a war zone. I do not understand how they can take Kashmiris along with respect and love in this kind of atmosphere. Every now and then they issue statements of revoking Article 370, and on the other side they on the ground they are pushing youth to the wall. This has only alienated the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. The democratic, economical, financial space of the people has been chocked by this government,” she said. (KNS)
