Mawer-Handwara road constructed six months ago is dotted with potholes

Srinagar, Mar 05 (KNS): Putting a question mark on the tall claims of government in ensuring quality material in road construction, a
Mawar-Handwara road which was macadamized six months ago is dotted with pothole.
Residents of the area have asked authorities to punish contractors engaged for its constructions.
A delegation while talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS) said the macadamisation of Mawar-Handwara stretch could not even last one winter season.
“It says a lot about the quality material used in construction of road. We smell a nexus between BEACON and concerned contractor, “they said.
“The residents living in the adjoining areas like Lach, Qalamabad, Hangha, Batgund and Martgam are suffering huge inconvenience while travelling. Cab drivers also reluctantly ply their vehicles on the stretch.” residents said.
They added school going children from these areas are also affected as they reach school very late due to non-availability of transport service.
However when KNS contacted Beacon officials, they said the stretch has already been outsourced and we could do nothing in this regard. The Official added that macadamizing work was done during inappropriate time which left roads damaged within short span of time. (KNS).
