DGHS says allegations baseless
Srinagar, Aug 09 (KNS): An acute shortage of medicos and paramedical staff in the Sub-District Hospital Karnah has come under severe criticism with the patients as well as the staff, alleging it to be a reason of immense hardships.
According to the Kashmir News Service (KNS) correspondent, Peerzada Sayeed, the patients as well as the staff of the SDH Karnah said that the massive staff crunch in Sub district Hospital Tangdhar of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district has severely hit the patient care.
They said that out 27 doctors posted in the hospital only four are working while one among them, a gynaecologist, Dr Parvez Ahmad is continuously working there from last 26 years.
Dr Parvez while talking to KNS correspondent said that he is the sole gynaecologist at the hospital and the department is not paying heed to the sufferings he has faced so far from last over two decades.
He said that the department must post another gynaecologist to the hospital so that the heavy rush of patients can be tackled easily. “I am facing the severe hardships here while tackling the rush of the patients. The department must post another gynaecologist here or should transfer me from here. In case my demands will not meet, i will commit suicide,” he said.
An official in the SDH Karnah said that at least 27 doctors were posted in the hospital but unfortunately only four among them have joined their duties while the rest of the doctors continue to remain absent. “It is unfortunate that the department is not paying any heed over the sufferings of doctors as well as the patients here,” he said.
Besides, the lack of doctors, the official said that the hospital also faces massive crunch of paramedical staff. Out of 174 posted in the hospital, only 80 are joining their duties while rest of the staff remain absent,” he added.
The patients while talking to KNS said that they are facing immense hardships in the hospital due to the massive crunch of staff here. “We have been urging the higher ups to post sufficient staff here but unfortunately all in vein as nothing has been done in this regard leaving the local populace here to suffer,” they added.
