Kupwara, July 19 (KNS): Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) carried out a significant enforcement drive against traffic violators in North Kashmirs Kupwara District on Saturday.
As per Kashmir News Service KNS A total of 116 vehicles were e-challaned and 35 were blacklisted for various traffic violations. The department imposed fines worth ?2.10 lakh under the Motor Vehicles Act during the day-long operation.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kupwara, Mohammad Shafait (JKAS) Told KNS that The drive covered key routes across the district including Kupwara–Lolab, Kupwara–Tangdhar, Kupwara–Sopore, Kupwara–Sogam, Kupwara–Kralpora, Kupwara–Kalaroos, and Kupwara–Handwara. Over 350 vehicles were checked by the enforcement teams.
He added that the, Common violations included over-speeding, not wearing seatbelts or helmets, overcharging passengers, absence of Speed Limiting Devices (SLDs), plying without valid route permits, and missing High-Security Registration Plates (HSRPs).Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
In addition to e-challans and blacklisting, the department also recommended the suspension of six driving licenses and three road permits — all within a single day.
ARTO Kupwara, added KNS that the action was part of a wider enforcement campaign initiated under the directions of the Transport Commissioner of J&K, Vishesh Paul Mahajan.
He said that similar surprise drives will continue across the district to ensure road safety and legal compliance. “Drivers must follow traffic rules not just to avoid penalties, but to ensure safety of all road users,” ARTO Shafait added.
The enforcement operation was conducted under the direct supervision of ARTO Kupwara, with on-ground execution by MVI Waheed Ul Islam, MVI Karan Kumar, AMVI Arun Kaw, and SMVI Adil Ahmad. (KNS)
