MVD Kupwara Cracks Down on Traffic Violations; 1 Lakh Fine Imposed in Major Enforcement Drive

Kupwara, Dec 9 (KNS) : The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Kupwara today conducted a major enforcement drive across the district, acting on specific directions from the Secretary Transport and the Transport Commissioner, J&K.

The operation was initiated to curb traffic violations, enhance road safety, and rigorously enforce the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

The drive began by addressing severe traffic congestion on Hospital Road, Kupwara, where MVD teams successfully removed illegal encroachments and addressed instances of wrong parking.

The operation expanded to various locations, focusing on checking mandatory documents, vehicle fitness, overloading, and compliance with helmet and seatbelt regulations.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

During the drive, a total of 133 vehicles were thoroughly inspected and 37 vehicles were challaned (fined) for violations, including driving without documents, lack of protective gear, and mechanical defects. Two (02) Driving Licences were recommended for suspension due to serious, repeated offenses posing a risk to public safety. The total penalty amount from the challans issued is expected to realize ?1 Lakh.

The drive was carried out by MVI Waheed Ul Islam, MVTA Ishfaq Ahmad and consolidated employees of the department under supervision of ARTO Mohammad Shafait.(KNS)
